The Rector of the Water Institute, Prof. Adam Karia, recently visited Shinshu University in Japan, where he participated as a panelist in the prestigious Water Quality Conference. In his presentation, Prof. Karia highlighted Africa’s pressing water challenges and underscored the need for innovation, research, and strong international collaboration to ensure sustainable water security.
During his visit, Prof. Karia also toured different campuses of Shinshu University to learn about the institution’s academic and research activities, with a focus on identifying areas of collaboration that could benefit the Water Institute.
At the Nagano Campus, he visited the Water Quality and Material Laboratories, where researchers are developing advanced technologies for water purification, monitoring, and sustainable treatment methods. The exchange of knowledge in these laboratories opened doors for possible joint research, capacity building, and technology transfer to strengthen the Water Institute’s work in Tanzania.
At the Matsumoto Main Campus, Prof. Karia observed how robotic technology is being applied in laboratories, demonstrating the university’s embrace of Industry 4.0 innovations in scientific research. The integration of robotics enhances precision, efficiency, and safety in laboratory experiments insights that could guide the modernization of laboratory practices at the Water Institute.

Throughout his visit, Prof. Karia engaged with Shinshu University experts and administrators to explore opportunities for staff and student exchange programs, collaborative projects, and shared research initiatives. His mission aimed at ensuring that the Water Institute can tap into Shinshu University’s technological advancements and global experience in water research and innovation.
